Entry level pharm techs must submit an application to the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy with a check or money order for $30 (annual renewals at $30 as well). New techs must secure Board-approved certification within one year of pharmacy employment. Alternatively, training can consist of 220 pharmacist-supervised hours of practical work.
The supervision pharmacist/manager is responsible to ensure that techs receive training that is approved by the Board. Towards that goal, pharmacists commonly rely on <ahref=”http://www.nhanow.com/certifications/pharmacy-technician”>the National Pharmacy Technician training Program as a step that leads to the Board-approved ExCPT Exam.
Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque has an accredited Certificate of Completion program for pharm techs that requires new students to submit to a screening process before registering. Students would then receive classroom, lab and practical experience that prepare them for pharmacy employment.
Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell Campus offers a Pharmacy Technician Certificate of Employability. All students must however take the University Skills Placement test and the TABE prior to registration.
Pima Medical Institute-Albuquerque Campusoffers a Certificate program that places emphasis on IV-therapy training that is particularly used in hospitals.
